Tea Recommendations

Where to Buy Good Tea Online

Tea blogs are a great resource for discovering new teas to try! There are so many choices out there that following a recommendation can lead you to a tea you may have never heard of otherwise! I am always on the search for new tea to try and love to come across recommendations from others. So, if you’re looking to try something new, maybe you’ll find the following helpful. Here is a list of my go-to websites for where I buy tea online and my favorite teas.

Casablanca Teas is a small business that I am rooting for. This business is run by a mother daughter team whose goal is to discover the world’s finest teas. They travel the world and find small, multi-generational farms to source delicious, high-quality tea from. Sadly, they recently had to close their store location, but the tea is still available to order online! I am going to miss talking to the owner who is so knowledgeable about tea. I loved hearing how she discovered the tea and her experiences of traveling to the sources.

My favorite picks: Old Tree Yunnan & Chocolate Puer

Bird Pick Tea is another place that I discovered, whose store location I used to visit is now closed. But I can still get my favorites online!

My favorite picks: Premium Lychee Black & Premium Silky Green Oolong

My friend got me tea as a present from Satori Tea Company and I was excited to discover that I could order their tea online! I love the unique, flavorful blends. Also, I’ve been on the hunt for good tisane blends, and I was delighted to find they have a great selection. (Not to mention a blend we used to carry at the tea place I worked at before it closed. Hello old friend!)

My favorite picks: Valley of the Heart’s Delight (I just found out this tea is no longer available online… or maybe it never was? This is the one my friend bought me.) & Bahama Mama

Now I’m transitioning from small businesses to long established companies. When I went on a trip to Vancouver, I was told I had to try Murchie’s. Murchie’s Fine Tea & Coffee is Canada’s oldest tea company. In business for over 125 years, they have looots of options to choose from. Personally, I prefer supporting small business tea shops who source quality tea and while Murchie’s has a large selection, you run into things like artificial flavoring used in some of their teas. If I’m not drinking the tea on a regular basis, I can get past that, and that’s why one of my listed picks from Murchie’s is a seasonal tea with natural and artificial flavoring. But the real reason I’m listing Murchie’s here is because they carry my all-time favorite daily tea, Storm Watcher.

My favorite picks: Storm Watcher & Pumpkin Spice

I am listing another big business, Peet’s, because I grew up with this store. When I first developed a taste for tea, Peet’s was my local place to get introduced to a variety of tea (Scottish Breakfast, Russian Caravan, Black Currant, Sencha, Snow Leopard, Jasmine Pearls, Ancient Tree’s Puer!). Sadly, things change…

When I was little it was Peet’s Coffee and Tea and now you go to their website and it’s just Peet’s Coffee. I used to be able to get a tea pot of loose-leaf tea and get it re-steeped at my downtown store, but alas, no more. (Maybe there are still locations out there that do that, hopefully?) I remember being pretty upset when Peet’s acquired Mighty Leaf in 2014 and started selling their tea. I mean, now I wouldn’t call Peet’s tea the most amazing tea I’ve ever had, but it’s what I grew up with and now a lot of the teas I used to drink there aren’t available anymore. (But, by golly, I’ve still got a tin of Scottish Breakfast stashed away that’s probably almost 10 years old now…)

Peet’s does still have some of their original tea, and I can get my nostalgic Assam Golden Tip which was my go-to daily tea growing up. (Even though it says Mighty Leaf on the tin, I confirmed back in 2014 that it’s still the original Peet’s tea. So is Pride of the Port, Longjing Dragonwell, Ti Kuan Yin, and Jasmine Downy Pearls. Now it’s been a long time, so I can’t be 100% sure, but the Assam Golden Tip still tastes the same to me, so I’m assuming these teas haven’t changed either).

To wrap up my Peet’s rant, they carry my all-time favorite seasonal tea, Winter Solstice. I still have a box of pre Mighty Leaf Winter Solstice tea bags that I am hording like a fine wine. Still, every winter, I will stock up on a tin or two when Winter Solstice becomes available. Hopefully they will continue to carry this seasonal tea. (You are missed Holiday Breakfast tea!) Also, some years the Winter Solstice blend is better than others, so if you like a year, stock up!

My favorite picks: Assam Golden Tip & Winter Solstice
